The PowerPack 10K is our most popular product on Amazon. Many of our customers choose to purchase it because of the lightweight, slim form factor. The PowerPack 10K has two input ports that can be used for recharging, the Micro-USB and the USB-C port. However, it only has one output port, the USB-A port. Some customers are frustrated by this and wish that the USB-C port was bidirectional, meaning it can be used for recharging the PowerPack and charging of other devices.
Of course, many customers are fine with 1 USB-A port. In fact, they may have no need for the USB-C output port, because their devices are not compatible with it, and they would need to purchase a separate cable or adapter to use it. Adding the USB-C output functionality would increase the cost of the portable charger as well. Ultimately, we decided against changing the original design of the PowerPack 10K. Instead, to cater to the customers who want a bidirectional USB-C port, we launched a new product, the PowerPack 10K USB-C.
The PowerPack 10K USB-C adds a bidirectional port to the preexisting design of the PowerPack 10K. Although it is a bit thicker and heavier, the dimensions still resemble those of the PowerPack 10K. In addition, the PowerPack 10K USB-C has a more premium feel with a woven fabric cover surface instead of the plastic on the PowerPack 10K.
The USB-A output port and Micro USB input port are still there, but the USB-C port is now capable of recharging and charging.
What does this mean in terms of functionality? It means that the PowerPack 10K USB-C can fast charge devices that the PowerPack 10K cannot.
The PowerPack 10K relied only on the Quick Charge standard for fast charging devices. However, the PowerPack 10K USB-C supports both Quick Charge and USB Power Delivery (PD) standards. With PD fast charging, you can now fast charge devices like the Pixel 3 or the iPhone XS.
You can fast charge all models of Google Pixel phones. When plugged in to charge via a USB-C to USB-C cable, the Pixel lock screen will show "Charging rapidly."
The PowerPack 10K USB-C can also fast charge iPhone's (models 8 and newer). Use a USB-C to Lightning cable. Plug the USB-C end into the PowerPack and the Lightning end into your iPhone. Fast charging will begin after you hear two chimes from the iPhone.
Like the PowerPack 10K, the PowerPack 10K USB-C features low power charging mode for charging smaller current devices like Bluetooth headphones and smartwatches. However, the 10K USB-C also has USB adapter mode. Double-press the side button to turn the battery pack into a USB adapter you can use to connect a computer mouse, flash drive, or keyboard. While in USB adapter mode, connect to a laptop via the USB-C port and plug a flash drive or other accessory into the USB-A port. The laptop and accessory will now be connected.
Here's how the new PowerPack 10K USB-C stacks up to our other battery packs.
As you can see, it's about a half-inch longer than the PowerPack 10K and just a tiny bit wider and thicker. It's also about 1 oz heavier.
Why should you purchase this portable charger? You should purchase it if you have an iPhone (8 or later) or Samsung Galaxy and other USB-C devices. You can charge the iPhone with a USB-C to Lightning cable or through the typical USB-A to Lightning cable.
Likewise, you can charge phones like the Samsung Galaxy or LG G7 with either a USB-C to USB-A cable or a USB-C to USB-C cable. When you purchase the PowerPack 10K USB-C, we will also give you these two cables in the box. However, we do not provide the USB-C to Lightning cable for fast charging iPhone's.
For Google Pixel's, it's super simple. Just use your Pixel's USB-C to USB-C cable or the C to C cable that we provide, and you're good to go.
If you have devices that can be charged over either the USB-C or USB-A port, this is the portable charger you'll need to get, because it gives you both options. You could also purchase the PowerPack 20K, but it is more costly and a lot heavier. We only recommended it if you need a battery pack for your USB-C laptop. Otherwise, we recommend our 10,000 mAh portable chargers for customers who want something more lightweight and pocketable.
